Beside You

I was there beside you,
And yet I could not see
The pain that wracked you to the core
And brought you to your knees

You were there beside me,
And yet you did not show
You hid so well behind your mask
And never let me know.

As I sat beside you,
You smiled and you shined
How is it you could laugh so hard
With all you held inside?


While you sat beside me,
Well, what went through your mind?
Why couldn't you have talked to me?
